SDSU Extension will be hosting a workshop in Winner at the SDSU Extension Regional Center on March 17 to help you feel prepared and confident for the upcoming growing season.
Participants will receive research-based tips and strategies for navigating the unique gardening challenges of western South Dakota, including fluctuating temperatures, high winds, hail, early or late snowfall, and short growing seasons. Topics include seed starting, transplanting, soil fertility, varietal selection, irrigation, protected cultivation, pest management, and harvest strategies tailored specifically to Winner and Tripp County.

A community tradition is coming back to Colome with an evening of good food, fun, and fellowship.
The Colome American Legion will host its Rocky Mountain Oysters – The Original Sack Lunch and Fish Fry on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Serving will run from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., giving everyone plenty of time to stop by and enjoy a hearty meal with friends and neighbors.
The menu will feature Rocky Mountain oysters and fish, along with classic sides including fried potatoes, coleslaw, and baked beans. The meal will be offered as a free will offering, making it a great opportunity for the community to gather while supporting the local Legion.
The evening doesn’t stop with supper. After the meal, a Pitch Tournament will begin at 7:30 p.m., giving card players a chance to test their skills and continue the fun.

Science Night will be held on March 26, 2026, in the Colome School Gymnasium from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
During the evening, K–12 student and class projects will be on display, giving the community a chance to see the creativity and hard work students have put into their science projects.
There will also be a scavenger hunt for the public, making it a fun and interactive event for visitors of all ages.
Everyone is welcome to attend, and it’s a come-and-go event, so stop by anytime during the evening and enjoy the exhibits.

Hamill Hustlers 4-H Club is hosting a bake sale on Friday, April 3rd (Good Friday) at County Fair Grocery Store. The sale starts at 9:30 a.m. and runs until items are sold out.

Residents of Winner, South Dakota, are encouraged to participate in the City of Winner Spring Clean-Up scheduled for Monday, April 13, 2026. This annual event helps the community tidy up yards, alleys, and neighborhoods after the long winter season.
City crews will collect a variety of items, but residents are asked to separate materials into accepted groups before pickup. Accepted categories include iron, wood, yard waste, furniture, and trees cut to a maximum length of six feet. Appliances will also be accepted as long as Freon has been properly removed, and empty, washed-out paint cans may be included.
There are a few important restrictions. Plastic items and tires will not be accepted during the clean-up.
To ensure pickup, all items must be placed curbside or in the alley before 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 13. 🌱🧹
